Join to collect insects caught in overnight traps, to see which insects fly around on campus during late summer.

If the weather forecast the day before predicts heavy rain and/or strong winds, the activity will be cancelled. Information will then be posted on Instagram.
KBC Building, meeting point at the main entranceOther/en/events/nature-on-campus-nocturnal-flying-insects-on-campus_12085466/2025-08-20T08:00:00+02:002025-08-20T09:00:00+02:00/en/events/nature-on-campus-paleoecology--history-of-landscape-development_12085477/Nature on campus: Paleoecology – history of landscape developmentNote: an excursion in English takes place on August 28 at 12.00-13.00.Wed, 27 Aug 2025 12:00:00 +0200
Note: an excursion in English takes place on August 28 at 12.00-13.00.
KBC Building, meeting point at the main entranceOther/en/events/nature-on-campus-paleoecology--history-of-landscape-development_12085477/2025-08-27T12:00:00+02:002025-08-27T13:00:00+02:00/en/events/nature-on-campus-a-1-000-year-history-of-landscape-_12105708/Nature on campus: A 1 000 year history of landscape Join us for an excursion focusing on the history of landscape development on the campus area. Meeting point: KBC Building, main entranceThu, 28 Aug 2025 12:00:00 +0200
Come along on an excursion to explore a thousand-year history of landscape development around Umeå University from a paleoecological perspective. You need no prior knowledge within natural sciences to take part in this ”journey in time” with focus on the natural history of the area. During the excursion, we will use paleoecology as a tool to explore the landscape development on campus. Paleoecology can be described as the study of earlier ecological and environmental changes, usually based on analyses of fossils, sedimentary depositions, and other physical remnants. The main factors that have shaped the landscape are glacial processes and land upheaval, which is reflected in today’s natural environment and our use of the landscape. The excursion will hopefully contribute to a deeper understanding of the relationships between geological, ecological, and human factors that have shaped the landscape around Umeå University. Wear durable shoes that can withstand a walk through the terrain around campus!

If the weather forecast the day before predicts heavy rain and/or strong winds, the activity will be cancelled. Meeting point: KBC Building, main entrance.Thu, 18 Sep 2025 12:00:00 +0200
Trees are dominating structures in forests, parks, and gardens, and they are important habitats for many organisms, such as insects and birds. In Sweden, there are not that many tree species and a few are non-native, but how many of these tree species do you really know? Further, the leaves on many tree species shift colours during autumn. Why do they do that? During this excursion, we will walk around campus and to see which tree species we will find, and there will be a good chance to learn many of our Swedish tree species and why they shift colours differently during autumn. Welcome, and bring shoes and clothes according to the weather conditions!

If the weather forecast the day before predicts heavy rain and/or strong winds, the activity will be cancelled.
