About the course

During this course, the student will be given the opportunity to develop her/his ability and experience to discuss and present theoretical issues. Students will acquire their own experience of how to apply results of academic research in practical industrial design work, and will learn how to have a reflective approach, focusing on industrial design and related areas. - Design Theory, 1.5 credits - Market and strategy, 1.5 credits - Research orientation, 1.5 credits

1. Design Theory, 1.5 credits In the part of the course, the basics in the field of design theory are introduced. The aim is for the student to become acquainted with a theoretical approach in relation to her/his future working methods and design. The student should also form a theoretical and conceptual understanding of design theory and practice to - with a reflective approach - discuss for example design theory with a focus on industrial design and related areas. During the course, the student will be given the opportunity to develop her/his ability to discuss and present theoretical issues.

2. Market and strategy 1.5 credits The student will acquire and orientate herself/himself to the basic conditions for modern marketing, based on a design development perspective. The student will also become acquainted with, and understand, economic concepts and finance based on a design development perspective.

3. Research orientation, 1.5 credits In the course, the student will gain insight into projects and working methods of applied and academic research, and the field of industrial design. The students will identify methodological processes and techniques from previous courses, discuss how they can be applied in industrial design research, and broaden her/his view of the professional role of an industrial designer.
