About the programme

Do you already have a bachelor's degree and are interested in questions regarding gender and power relations? This online program prepares you for a working life in which advanced knowledge and critical perspectives in areas such as equality, social norms, power and equal treatment are required. The program has a strong interdisciplinary profile where you as a student gain perspective on gender, ethnicity, sexuality and class from different disciplines.

Profile your education and acquire an expertise

The Master's Program in Gender, Justice and Society has open admission requirements, where a bachelor's degree gives you eligibility to study Gender Studies at the advanced level, i.e. you who have not previously studied gender studies are also eligible. The program gives you a unique opportunity to profile your education and acquire an expertise in an area that is increasingly in demand.

The program is aimed at students and professionals in the public and the private sectors as well as organizations, and who have a Bachelor´s Degree (equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, 180 ECTS) in gender studies or similar and want to benefit from deeper knowledge in  gender studies.

The program runs for two semesters, 60 ECTS altogether. After completing 60 credits, students may, on application, obtain a one-year Degree of Master of Science (Filosofie Magisterexamen).

Study online

Studying on the program means that the student actively search for knowledge. The teaching is given through an electronic Learning Management System where the student takes part in lectures and seminars. Individual written assignments are the main form for examination.

The studies are characterized by a high degree of independent and active search for knowledge, and critical scientific analysis. Students who follow the program have a guaranteed enrolment in all of the program courses.

This is an international program with students coming from many countries. All teaching is done in English.

Future and career opportunities

The competence that this program gives can be put to use in work on issues such as gender equality and equal treatment. The positions may be as e.g. administrative staff, strategists, consultants, analysts, trainers, human resource officers, information officers, and also work including implementation, assessment or evaluation of policy. Competence in Gender Studies is also central in international work on peace-building, aid and development, human rights, gender equality or equal treatment in regional and national associations, or organizational work.
