Aletha Mattsson is a master student from the marine sciences department, University of Gothenburg and is using the mesocosms at UMF for her masters project.
She will present a project which aims to understand how kelp are affected by marine heat waves by exposing kelp to increased temperature and lowered salinity in mesocosms. Through measuring photosynthetic capacity, pigments, oxygen production, carbohydrates storage and bacterial communities during exposure and recovery, a conclusion of the kelps ability to survive in a changing future can be drawn.
