NEWS As of 1 July 2025, ͯÑÕÊÓƵ has a number of new leaders in place. It is the Vice-Chancellor who appoints the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Deans and Deputy deans - the latter are the senior academic leaders of the four faculties at the university - while the Pro-Vice-Chancellor is appointed by the university board, on the recommendation of the Vice-Chancellor. All Deans and Deputy deans are appointed until 30 June 2029.
Vice-Chancellor Tora Holmberg was appointed by the Government and took office on 1 April 2025 and has a six-year term of office from 2025 to 2031. She was most recently Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Uppsala University. Tora Holmberg is Professor of Sociology.
Patrik Danielson will be the new Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor's deputy for the period 1 July 2025-30 June 2031. Patrik Danielson is Professor of Anatomy, Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist and since 2017 Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Umeå University.
Thomas Olofsson will be the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor of research for the period 1 July 2025-30 June 2031. Thomas Olofsson is currently Professor of Energy Technology at the Department of Applied Physics and Electronics. Thomas Olofsson has broad and long experience of several management and leadership positions at Umeå University.
Cathrine Norberg has been Deputy Vice-Chancellor for education on the first- and second-cycle level since 1 January 2023. Cathrine Norberg came from Luleå University of Technology, where she has served as Head of Department, Dean and Pro Vice-Chancellor, and her appointment will be renewed at the end of the current contract on 31 December 2025. Cathrine Norberg is a professor at the Department of Language Studies.
