Sörlin will present his book SNÖ (Snow) – A History. Recently published in English. The book is both a love letter to snow and a story of loss, portraying snow as a natural phenomenon, a cultural symbol, and an expression of the transformations brought about by climate change. Through historical, scientific, and personal perspectives, Sörlin explores the role of snow in human societies – from indigenous winter landscapes to snow’s place in climate science and global politics.

The seminar offers an opportunity to reflect on snow’s changing presence in our time, and how this relates to broader questions of sustainability, environmental ethics, and societal transformation.

Register before 13 November: Registration form
HUM.D.220 - HjortronlandetSeminar/en/events/snow-climate-and-culture-in-a-time-of-change_12147292/2025-11-17T13:00:00+01:002025-11-17T14:30:00+01:00/en/events/dealing-with-the-polycrisis_12068499/Dealing with the polycrisisWelcome to Umeå Transformation Research Initiatives' annual conference!Thu, 27 Nov 2025 08:30:00 +0100
Welcome to Umeå Transformation Research Initiatives' annual conference! We welcome everyone interested in engaging in research and collaboration for sustainable transformation as we gather this year around the theme of polycrises.

Our world is characterised by global challenges of increasing complexity. The combination of crises such as pandemics, climate change, and wars reinforce each other and together form a polycrisis. To address these challenges, interdisciplinary research is required at multiple levels. At this conference, experts from various disciplines will gather to discuss and shed light on the phenomenon of polycrisis from different perspectives.

Take the opportunity to meet researchers and colleagues from across the university, and develop new collaborations that can help address major societal challenges of our time.

Read more: Dealing with the polycrisis - UTRI conference 2025

Polykris - bild
VardagsrummetConference/en/events/dealing-with-the-polycrisis_12068499/2025-11-27T08:30:00+01:002025-11-27T16:30:00+01:00
