Time Wednesday 10 June until Friday 12 June, 2026 at 15:00 - 19:00
Place Umeå School of Architecture

Umeå School of Architecture welcomes educators, researchers and practitioner to contribute to the EURAU 26 Symposium on the theme LATITUDES. Situated reflections on architectural research.

Research in Architecture can be conceived as a situated practice, linking to tradition of studies, cultures, climatic and contextual conditions. LATITUDES aims at investigating the field of architecture as a research discipline across cultures, territories and places.

Emphasizing the importance of understanding architectural research as a practice situated across multiple contexts, disciplines, and cultural viewpoints and by acknowledging these relational frameworks, LATITUDES encourages researchers with an approach rigorous in measurement yet attentive to the diversity of perspectives that shape the world we inhabit.

EURAU European Research on Architecture and Urbanism is a network of schools and researchers in the field, which meets biannually in a symposium to share their investigations.

EURAU's main concern is to establish a platform of debate and discussion of contemporary discourses in Architecture and Urbanism. The 2026 conference will be held at Umeå School of Architecture and has the aim to collect reflections and experiences to promote an active engagement of the universities involved to investigate future possibilities of our field of study.

The first day is open to all participants at Umeå University interested in joining us:

LATITUDES. Situated Reflections on Architectural Research

Maria Luna Nobile, Associate Professor Umeå University and LATITUDES scientific responsible.

How does LATITUDE influence architecture as a practice? How does research in architecture relate to the specific condition of LATITUDE? How does the context/s we are living in influence the way we educate future architects? In architecture, research topics are mostly related to the context in which we live. In many cases, we have the opportunity to relate to other contexts. The EURAU 26 symposium proposes a platform for expanding this discussion.
