According to most psychiatrists, depression is a (low) mood dysfunction. In contrast, several evolutionary theorists have argued that this category actually lumps together two phenomena: functional but severe low mood, and dysfunctional low mood. The overall aim of this presentation is to help settle this debate. To reach this aim, I do three things. Firstly, I propose a novel way to adjudicate the debate: by drawing upon recent philosophical work on dysfunction, I put forward an epistemic framework by which to diagnose whether depression (or any psychological condition) is (dys)functional. Secondly, on the basis of this framework I show that evolutionary theorists are right, and psychiatrists are wrong: depression is not a natural kind, but rather lumps together both functional, as well as dysfunctional, instances of low mood. Finally, I consider whether this should affect how we classify and diagnose depression, and what this means for treatment of both functional and dysfunctional low mood.

All interested are welcome to this meeting.

About the seminar series

Learn more about the seminar series in Philosophy and upcoming events
HUM.H.119Seminar/en/events/james-turner_12137059/2025-11-05T13:15:00+01:002025-11-05T15:00:00+01:00/en/events/understanding-the-swedish-labour-market_12136473/Understanding the Swedish labour marketDo you consider pursuing a career in Sweden and wish to gain insights on the Swedish labour market? Advances in generative AI and large language models raise fundamental questions about the nature of AI, its societal impact, and the responsibilities of those who design and deploy it. But AI is not an autonomous force; it is the result of human choices, values, and priorities.

This talk argues that responsibility in AI is not a constraint but the foundation of meaningful innovation. Grounded in trust, cooperation, and the common good, a responsible approach helps us move beyond technological determinism toward real societal benefit. Regulation, governance, and ethical design are not barriers but enablers, creating the conditions for sustainable progress, public trust, and genuine differentiation. Acknowledging trade-offs and context in decision-making, I will contend that Responsible AI is not optional; it is the only viable path for AI to support human flourishing.

Speaker:

Virginia Dignum

Department of Computing Science, Umeå University

Bio:

Virginia Dignum is Professor of Responsible Artificial Intelligence at Umeå University, Sweden, where she leads the AI Policy Lab. In a time when higher education is increasingly shaped by demands for digitalization, standardization, and measurable outcomes, there are good reasons to pause and reflect on other dimensions of teaching—those that cannot always be quantified but nonetheless shape the very core of educational quality.

At this year’s university pedagogical conference, we aim to create a meeting place for exploring and re-establishing teaching as an art. What happens to the role of the teacher when teaching is reduced too much to mere necessary interactions, technical solutions, and efficiency demands? How can teachers make use of the enthusiastic, relational, and responsive aspects of teaching and thereby create truly meaningful and caring learning opportunities for our students?

For this year’s conference, we especially welcome contributions that highlight one or more of the perspectives described above. At the same time, we want to emphasize that contributions addressing teaching and learning from other angles are equally welcome. The core idea of the conference is to gather contributions that, in different ways, enrich the conversation about teaching and learning in higher education.
Humanities building, Umea universityConference/en/events/the-university-pedagogy-conference-2025_12106683/2025-11-06T09:00:00+01:002025-11-07T16:00:00+01:00/en/events/ing-marie-back-danielsson_12145552/Research seminar in archaeology: Dr. Ing-Marie Back DanielssonThe Research Seminar Series in Archaeology and Environmental Archaeology invites you to a seminar with Dr. Ing-Marie Back Danielsson.Thu, 06 Nov 2025 13:00:00 +0100
The Research Seminar Series in Archaeology and Environmental archaeology invites you to a seminar with Dr. Ing-Marie Back Danielsson, "Evocative Imagery at Whose Expense? Critical Perspectives on Viking Age Mortuary Reconstructions".

Abstract: In this presentation I will discuss Viking Age mortuary reconstructions, a genre of archaeological imagery that has gained significant prominence in the last few decades, in both scholarly and popular domains. Drawing upon a number or mortuary reconstructions from the Scandinavian Viking Age, produced since 2000, the study interrogates the emotive, affective, and ethical dimensions of these visualisations. Employing a visual social semiotic framework, it analyses vantage points, colour schemes, bodily representations, and gender codings to demonstrate how artistic decisions intersect with archaeological interpretation. The findings reveal a tendency towards dramatization, sexualisation, and/or sensationalism, particularly in depictions of women, alongside anthropocentric distinctions in portrayals of humans and animals. While claiming naturalistic realism, these images frequently obscure evidential uncertainties, thereby consolidating extreme and exceptional cases as normative representations of Viking Age mortuary practices. Arguments are presented for increased transparency, ethical reflexivity, and peer review in the production of mortuary reconstructions, contending that such images constitute ethically consequential acts that shape post-mortem dignity and contemporary engagements with the Viking past.

About the seminar series

The Research Seminar Series in Archaeology and Environmental Archaeology presents and discusses current research in archaeology and environmental archaeology.
See more upcoming seminars in the series
HUM.J.118Seminar/en/events/ing-marie-back-danielsson_12145552/2025-11-06T13:00:00+01:002025-11-06T15:00:00+01:00/en/events/medchem-seminar-series----annalisa-pastore_12140924/Medchem Seminar Series - Annalisa PastoreTitle: "From aptamer in silico design to disease mechanism: the example of TDP-43"Thu, 06 Nov 2025 15:15:00 +0100
Speaker:

Annalisa Pastore

King’s College London, UK

Title:

From aptamer in silico design to disease mechanism: the example of TDP-43

Host: Nicolò Maccaferri (UCMR)

KB.E3.01 (Lilla hörsalen), KBCSeminar/en/events/medchem-seminar-series----annalisa-pastore_12140924/2025-11-06T15:15:00+01:002025-11-06T16:00:00+01:00/en/events/sofia-svahn--clinical-pharmacology_12142831/Sofia Svahn – Clinical PharmacologyCARDIOVASCULAR DRUG TREATMENT AND AN INTERVENTION TO IMPROVE DRUG TREATMENT AMONG OLDER PEOPLEFri, 07 Nov 2025 09:00:00 +0100
Sofia Svahn, Departmen of Medical and Translational Biology, defends her doctoral thesis CARDIOVASCULAR DRUG TREATMENT AND AN INTERVENTION TO IMPROVE DRUG TREATMENT AMONG OLDER PEOPLE. Principal supervisor Maria Gustafsson.
Aula AnatomicaDefence of doctoral thesis/en/events/sofia-svahn--clinical-pharmacology_12142831/2025-11-07T09:00:00+01:002025-11-07T12:00:00+01:00/en/events/upsc-seminar-with-abdul-kareem-valiya-kadavu_12145631/UPSC Seminar with Abdul Kareem Valiya KadavuScientific seminar arranged by å Plant Science CentreFri, 07 Nov 2025 09:00:00 +0100
UPSC Seminar

Speaker: Abdul Kareem Valiya Kadavu

Department of Plant Biology, Linnean Center for Plant Biology, SLU, Uppsala, Sweden

Title: How plants regenerate: Molecular mechanisms, fate decisions, and lessons for plant development

Contact: Ove Nilsson
"Stora hörsalen" (Big lecture hall), KB.E3.03, KBC buildingSeminar/en/events/upsc-seminar-with-abdul-kareem-valiya-kadavu_12145631/2025-11-07T09:00:00+01:002025-11-07T10:00:00+01:00/en/events/new-perspectives-on-sustainable-health_12146638/New Perspectives on Sustainable HealthWelcome to join a webinar in the SHIP Dialogue Series: “New Perspectives on Sustainable Health.” Fri, 07 Nov 2025 10:00:00 +0100
Join us for a dialogue on how One Health can help tackle complex global challenges and contribute to a more sustainable future.

Did you know that disruption of natural ecosystems has been linked to most emerging infectious diseases in humans? While fan studies scholars have emphasized the participatory and community-driven nature of fanfiction from the beginning, this dimension has yet to be fully integrated into computational literary studies. In the talk, I propose network analysis to prestructure fanfiction data from the platform Fanfiktion.de. This enables to focus further explorations on platform-based interpretive communities, allowing to trace literary meaning-making from within. In addition, I will discuss fan-oriented strategies of data collection that respect the participatory ethos of the field.
Humllab / ZoomLecture/en/events/humlab-talk-anastasia-glawion_12143398/2025-11-19T13:15:00+01:002025-11-19T14:45:00+01:00/en/events/eva-rodriguez-marquez--cell-biology_12142833/Eva Rodríguez Márquez – Cell BiologyTumour progression and photodynamic therapy in a zebrafish model of rhabdomyosarcoma.Thu, 20 Nov 2025 09:00:00 +0100
Eva Rodríguez Márquez, Department of Medical and Translational Biology, defends her doctoral thesis Tumour progression and photodynamic therapy in a zebrafish model of rhabdomyosarcoma. Principal supervisor Jonas von Hofsten.
Aula BiologicaDefence of doctoral thesis/en/events/eva-rodriguez-marquez--cell-biology_12142833/2025-11-20T09:00:00+01:002025-11-20T12:00:00+01:00/en/events/taiga-days-ai-power--the-good-of-all_12127114/TAIGA Days: AI, Power & the Good of AllA two-day symposium on how AI can empower organizations, shape the region, and foster transdisciplinary AI research for the good of all. Thu, 20 Nov 2025 09:00:00 +0100
Invitation for the TAIGA days on November 20 and 21, 2025

The TAIGA days this year will not be focused on presenting interesting AI developments of the past year, but rather focus on shaping the four new overall themes of TAIGA for the next years. Besides the eight focus areas (that will continue) that were meant to develop the research in specific areas across the university we will now use the following four themes to create more synergies, while also allowing new groups to actively participate.

The four themes are strategically chosen to both provide a recognizable profile for TAIGA and to connect with strong research profiles of the university. The four themes are:

Arctic AI

Power and AI

AI for the region

AI and education

The themes are NOT mutually exclusive and people can contribute to several of them and research can fit in more than one theme as well. We want to co-create the concrete content of the themes with all motivated people at university and the region. The first important step will be taken during the TAIGA days. A first sketch of what we understand to be included by the themes is the following:

Arctic AI should be about AI theory and systems specifically connected to aspects of the Arctic. E.g. NLP for minority languages, e-health for isolated areas, support to cope with climate change in the Arctic, or other examples.

Power and AI is about how the use of AI influences the power balance in society. It can give more power to certain groups of people, it can support or undermine democracy, AI policies can benefit some groups and neglect others, AI can change human interactions, or other examples.

AI for the region is meant to reach out specifically outside university and connect AI research at university with needs of municipalities, companies and other regional organizations, or other examples.

AI and education is aiming to create a roadmap for AI education both at university as well as in the region. This roadmap can be used to coordinate efforts already underway and facilitate discussion on where more efforts are needed.
E.g. should we start an interdisciplinary AI or have a CS AI bachelor or both. How about several interdisciplinary AI Master programs? What are the needs of industry and municipalities wrt AI literacy? Are they the same or different? What role can we play in this education? Who should fund these efforts?

For each theme we have half a day at the TAIGA days. Each session starts with an inspirational talk followed by a round table discussion with all participants. The goal of each session is to have a list of interested people and some concrete action points for the next months. If you are interested in one or more themes, please, register for the sessions and bring your ideas! You do not need to know how to solve problems with AI! As long as you have interesting ideas that you think could be tackled (partly) with AI you are welcome to come.

Besides the four sessions on the four themes there will also be a session on Friday especially for and by students. This is only for students! But then all students interested in AI or doing research in AI or with AI are welcome to come and see who else is doing that. This is the first event of the S4S group of TAIGA that hopes to bring students that have an interest in AI together. More will follow!

Preliminary program

Participation is free, but please register to selected sessions or the whole program. More details will be added to this event page as the program develops. Last date to register is November 12. Registration link

Day 0 – November 19

19:30–21:30 | Rotundan

Special Screening: Humans in the Loop

Kick-off the TAIGA days together with AI Policy Lab Days finale with a powerful and acclaimed documentary. Humans in the Loop offers an intimate portrait of a young data annotator in India and reveals the hidden human labor behind today’s AI. Snacks and warm drinks will be served. The 72-minute screening will be followed by a discussion on the unseen role of data workers in the AI industry. Registration is required and places are limited (via AI Policy Lab).

Day 1 – November 20

8:30–16:00 | Vardagsrummet

Each day: 8:30-9:00, Mingel and registration | 10:00–10:15, Coffee | 12:00–13:00, Lunch & Networking | 14:00–14:15, Coffee

9:00–12:00 | AI, Power, and Democracy

How does AI influence power and democracy, and how can we as researchers shape its role in society? This session invites colleagues from across the university to take part in an open conversation, where ideas and perspectives are shared rather than just presented. The aim is to connect curious researchers and spark small initiatives that can grow into future collaborations.

13:00–16:00 | AI and the Arctic

How can AI help us understand and address the unique challenges and opportunities of the Arctic? This interactive session invites researchers from across the university to share perspectives, spark new connections, and explore ideas that could grow into future collaborations.

Day 2 – November 21

8:30–16:00 | Vardagsrummet

Each day: 8:30-9:00, Mingel and registration | 10:00–10:15, Coffee | 12:00–13:00, Lunch & Networking | 14:00–14:15, Coffee

09:00–12:00 | Regional Collaboration

Parallel Sessions

How can AI support the needs of industry, healthcare, and public actors in the Umeå region? It’s a chance to meet researchers, share ideas, and discover opportunities for collaboration. The event is hosted by the TAIGA S4S (Students for Students) group.

13:00–16:00 | Education and AI

How prepared are we across universities, schools, and industry for an AI-driven future? This session begins with an inspirational talk by Professor Ola Lindberg, titled “Where do we go without a roadmap?”, exploring why clear AI strategies for education are essential, and what happens when they are missing.

Participants will then engage in collaborative workshops to uncover blind spots in current AI education. What types of learning are lacking for students, teachers, researchers, and professionals? Where do we need to strengthen our efforts? Through dialogue and shared mapping, we aim to identify gaps, surface opportunities, and lay the groundwork for new joint initiatives.

16:00–18:00 | AI Jam Session (UmArts)

Round off TAIGA Days with a creative and social gathering hosted by UmArts. The AI Jam sessions bring together an interdisciplinary community exploring AI through computer music, composition, live coding, and hands-on tinkering with synthesizers and instrument-making. Come listen, experiment, and connect in an informal setting. Drinks and snacks will be served.

About TAIGA Days

TAIGA Days is a year event hosted by TAIGA, Umeå University’s Centre for Transdisciplinary AI. Then, I demonstrate how the digital can be a space for engagement, but also a mode of engagement itself. I develop several examples of Inuit and Sámi engagement in a digital context, such as the #sealfie campaign and the Fosen movement.

Moreover, I discuss how Inuit and Sámi Women appropriate a space dominated by non-indigenous environmental discourses, by contributing to the making of a digital indigeneity, and a global indigenous discourse about climate change. Finally, I share some insights on the differences between Inuit women’s and Sámi women’s environmental engagement.

HumlabLecture/en/events/inuit-and-sami-womens-environmental-engagement_12146974/2025-11-24T13:15:00+01:002025-11-24T14:45:00+01:00/en/events/meet-umea-university-in-madrid_12134636/Meet å University in Madrid!Meet å University at the FIEP International Postgraduate Studies Fair in Madrid and explore study opportunities in Sweden.Mon, 24 Nov 2025 16:30:00 +0100
We will be delighted to meet you in person and guide you through our study programmes entry requirements, the application and admission process, housing and life in Umeå.

Umeå University is one of the nation's leading institutions of higher education and the largest in northern Sweden. We offer over 45 degree programmes taught entirely in English where you will study in an environment rich in opportunities for interdisciplinary research and instruction. For those in service and agriculture the response was delayed, reaching its highest value in the year after a year of high prices. Differences in timing likely represent effects of malnutrition and supports the hypotheses of a discriminatory mortality response.
Fatmomakke NBET floor 4 / ZoomSeminar/en/events/cedar-seminar-novemer-27_12146451/2025-11-27T13:00:00+01:002025-11-27T14:00:00+01:00/en/events/maria-brannholm-syrjala---family-medicine_12135869/Maria Brännholm Syrjälä - Family MedicineSedentary behaviour and type 2 diabetes: Epidemiological insights and an mHealth intervention.Fri, 28 Nov 2025 09:00:00 +0100
Maria Brännholm Syrjälä, Department of public health and clinical medicine, defends her doctoral thesis Sedentary behaviour and type 2 diabetes: Epidemiological insights and an mHealth intervention.

External reviewer: Associate Professor Fredrik Iredahl, Health, Medicine and Caring Sciences (HMV), Linköping University.

Prinicipal supervisor: Patrik Wennberg.

The defense will be held in Swedish.

It will be possible to follow via Zoom:
Link to Zoom meeting (code 508201)
The assembly hall, Sunderby HospitalDefence of doctoral thesis/en/events/maria-brannholm-syrjala---family-medicine_12135869/2025-11-28T09:00:00+01:002025-11-28T13:00:00+01:00/en/events/go-abroad-fair---utrecht-nl_12145052/Go-Abroad Fair - Utrecht, NLVisit å University at the the Go-Abroad Fair and discover what å University has to offer.Fri, 28 Nov 2025 09:00:00 +0100
Join us at the Go-Abroad Fair in Utrecht, NL on 28–29 November and discover our English-taught bachelor's and master's programmes!

Location: Jaarbeurs Utrecht (Hall 7 & Article by Sam Büch, David Loeffler & Emma Svensson.

Abstract

"You shouldn’t believe anything until the evidence actually supports it."
Matt Dillahunty

Classification is the systematic study, analysis and grouping of entities (both things and concepts) based on perceived types or categories. It is a powerful tool employed by all of the sciences; formal, natural and social. Classification is never final. It is always work in progress, open to constant revision or replacement. This is eloquently expressed by Khazanov who also reminds us:

"[that]…definitions, categories, typologies and classifications should never become the end of a study, or a purely semantic exercise. They are only its analytical tool, reflecting somewhat the methodological approaches undertaken. Their value depends not so much on their precision, which is almost always disputable, but on how adequately they serve the specific goals of the investigation." Anatoly M. Khazanov 1994 cited from Marklund 2008:348.

Sooner or later everyone bumps into something unique that challenges their frames of reference, resulting in a situation that compels adjustments or a critical reassessment of the classification scheme and, in extension, nurtures new insights concerning the archaeological record and our understanding of the past. This case study addresses said scenario in an archaeological context exemplified by a recently discovered edifice located at the foot of Rösberget (Cairn Mountain) in the Municipality of Umeå, County of Västerbotten, in northern Sweden. This unique feature was first recognized by Peter Holmblad who shared this find with the authors and who also pointed out the seemingly stylistic attributes it appears to share with historical Sami motifs. This notion is explored here.

About the speaker

David Loeffler is a retired Associate Professor of Archaeology at Umeå University. He holds a PhD in Archaeology, and his academic career has been largely devoted to archaeological fieldwork in Norrland and teaching at Umeå University.

About the seminar series

The Research Seminar Series in Archaeology and Environmental Archaeology presents and discusses current research in archaeology and environmental archaeology.
See more upcoming seminars in the series
HUM.J.118Seminar/en/events/david-loeffler_12147052/2025-12-04T13:00:00+01:002025-12-04T15:00:00+01:00/en/events/humlab-talk-anja-neidhardt-mokoena-_12142856/Humlab Talk: Anja Neidhardt-Mokoena With Anja Neidhardt-Mokoena Thu, 04 Dec 2025 13:15:00 +0100
Entangled with Systems of Oppression? Thinking with onto-cartography in design research

Anja Neidhardt-Mokoena, Humlab

In design research there is a growing understanding that major parts of our discipline are involved with systems of oppression. In such discourse, design is often described as “entangled with systems of oppression” or “haunted by patriarchy”. But, what exactly does that mean? In this presentation, Anja Neidhardt-Mokoena introduces how thinking with onto-cartography, combined with a feminist approach, can support us in understanding more precisely how certain design institutions (such as design museums) reproduce systems of oppression. This is not only crucial for making sense of the current situation (in and beyond the design discipline), but also for identifying points of leverage where we can intervene and bring about positive change. The presentation is based on Anja’s PhD thesis Feminist Design Strategies for Transforming Design Museums Towards More Justice (2024, at Umeå Institute of Design and Umeå Centre for Gender Studies).

Registration Humlab Talk hybrid
Humlab / ZoomLecture/en/events/humlab-talk-anja-neidhardt-mokoena-_12142856/2025-12-04T13:15:00+01:002025-12-04T14:45:00+01:00/en/events/adam-rosenbaum---oncology_12138884/Adam Rosenbaum - OncologyAdam Rosenbaum, Department of Diagnostics and Intervention, defends his thesis in oncology.Fri, 05 Dec 2025 09:00:00 +0100
Adam Rosenbaum, Department of Diagnostics and Intervention, defends his thesis with the title: Germline Genetic Predisposition for Glioma

External reviewer: Professor Ruthild G Weber, Institute for Human Genetics, Hannover Medical School, Germany

Principal supervisor: Anna Dahlin

Join on Zoom
Stora Hörsalen i 5BDefence of doctoral thesis/en/events/adam-rosenbaum---oncology_12138884/2025-12-05T09:00:00+01:002025-12-05T12:00:00+01:00/en/events/stina-kallerhult-hermansson--nursing_12144183/Stina Kallerhult Hermansson – NursingBeing and becoming a mentor: Personal and professional growth in a Swedish Norwegian multicenter nurse mentorship interventionFri, 05 Dec 2025 09:00:00 +0100
Stina Kallerhult Hermansson, Department of Nursing, defends her doctoral thesis Being and becoming a mentor: Personal and professional growth in a Swedish Norwegian multicenter nurse mentorship intervention. Principal supervisor Karin Bölenius.
Aula BiologicaDefence of doctoral thesis/en/events/stina-kallerhult-hermansson--nursing_12144183/2025-12-05T09:00:00+01:002025-12-05T12:00:00+01:00/en/events/arctic-connect-dec-25_12144497/Arctic Connect dec25Strengthen your Arctic connections at Arctic Connect! In part this resistance to environmental stress stems from the SigB-regulated general stress response (GSR). The SigB regulon comprises around 300 genes whose functions contribute to critical homeostatic and protective functions. While the GSR plays a pivotal role in surviving under harsh conditions we have found that there is a significant cost to deploying it and in several conditions we see the emergence of mutations that negatively affect the GSR. In this seminar I will present these data and discuss the implications for the evolution of this pathogen.

Find your way: Regarding the lecture hall 5B P6 Stora hörsalen, it is located in the hospital premises. Drawing in part from our experiences with the publication of that article, we offer a work-in-progress manifesto proposing queer play as a strategic orientation—as well as set of imaginative, intellectual, and embodied tactics—toward enacting more just and joyful realities across a range of cultural and political contexts.

Queerness and play share many conceptual affinities, particularly in facilitating creative, non-normative, and otherwise outside-the-box approaches to ways of thinking and interacting. Following scholars in both queer (e.g., Rubin 1984, Cohen 1997, Muñoz 2009, Ahmed 2006) and play studies (e.g., Huizinga 1955, Caillois 1958, Flanagan 2009, Trammell 2023), we conceive of queer play in expansive ways. By “queer” we are less focused on LGBTQ+ people or topics, and instead emphasize queer ways of being, knowing, and relating. By “play,” we intentionally imagine a capacious range of activities, from traditional “games” to what game scholars Katie Salen and Eric Zimmerman (2003) describe as activities of “being playful.”

Yet, many historic and contemporary sites of LGBTQ+ struggle and study distance themselves from overtly playful practices in favor of mainstream modes of respectability and policy. Still, queer play is already mischieviously present in many dominant and disciplining institutions—from schooling to social media platforms—in ways that people misuse (Ahmed 2019), obfuscate (Brunton and Nissenbaum 2016), or otherwise “[embrace] the powerful act of playing the ‘wrong’ way” (Ruberg 2019, 18).

Drawing on communication and education studies (including our own work on drag pedagogy and digital cultures: Kornstein 2019; Keenan and Hot Mess 2020), we offer a broad conceptualization of queer play as an alternative worldmaking strategy—for pedagogical practice, research, and political action. In so doing, we complicate several tensions in both queerness and play, including: discourses of childishness, utility and uselessness, as well as risk and danger; topics that are “off limits;” and the overemphasis on both games and on affects of joy. We share examples of figures (e.g., Taylor Mac, Tom of Finland, The Muppets), scenes/sites (e.g., play parties, dollhouses, imaginary museums), and potential tools/toys of queer play (e.g., queer slang, tarot cards, glitter) that demonstrate queer play already in action. We conclude by offering proposals (and demands) for what queer play might look and feel like, focusing on themes of relationality, aesthetics, and sensation.

Marta Padovan-Özdemir (chair and discussant)
Associate professor, Roskilde University, Denmark is one of the pioneering researchers of norm critique in Denmark. The problem with instructions is rarely a lack of information — more often, it is the opposite. When overloaded, students struggle to identify what is important.

By analysing your own course communication using established frameworks, you will gain insights into how to reduce cognitive overload and structure instructions in a way that helps students focus and plan. The goal is for you to leave the workshop with concrete strategies to improve your course instructions — thereby increasing clarity in both communication and learning.

Read more and register here
Läraren, UPLCourse/en/events/kom-workshop-information-or-exformation_12108750/2026-06-03T08:30:00+02:002026-06-03T12:00:00+02:00/en/events/eurau-26-symposium-latitudes_12139443/EURAU 26 Symposium: Latitudeså School of Architecture welcomes educators, researchers and practitioner to the EURAU 26 Symposium on the theme LATITUDES. Situated reflections on architectural research.

Research in Architecture can be conceived as a situated practice, linking to tradition of studies, cultures, climatic and contextual conditions. LATITUDES aims at investigating the field of architecture as a research discipline across cultures, territories and places.

Emphasizing the importance of understanding architectural research as a practice situated across multiple contexts, disciplines, and cultural viewpoints and by acknowledging these relational frameworks, LATITUDES encourages researchers with an approach rigorous in measurement yet attentive to the diversity of perspectives that shape the world we inhabit.

EURAU European Research on Architecture and Urbanism is a network of schools and researchers in the field, which meets biannually in a symposium to share their investigations.

EURAU's main concern is to establish a platform of debate and discussion of contemporary discourses in Architecture and Urbanism.
