Four of the 17 projects are based at the Department of Medical Biosciences and three each at the Department of Clinical Microbiology, Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, and the Department of Radiation Sciences. The single largest recommended total allowance of SEK 3 million was awarded to Richard Palmqvist at the Department of Medical Biosciences for a project on intestinal cancer.

The Swedish Cancer Society reached the decision for 2012, and has made funding recommendations for 2013 and 2014. The 17 projects at Umeå University have received a total amount of SEK 10.7 million for 2012, while a total of approximately SEK 17 million has been recommended for 2013 and 2014 (in most cases). In addition to the project grants, the Cancer Society also approved a planning group grant to Roger Henriksson, Department of Radiation Sciences.
