My academic background is rooted in linguistics, literature, and language studies, with a specific focus on Swedish and English. I combine this with a keen interest in gender and queer studies. Specifically, I am interested in critically investigating how language is employed in the media – both new and traditional – to shape discourses around identity. Other academic interests are sports media, pop culture, fandom studies, and cultural studies.

I am currently writing my dissertation on how Swedish mainstream and gay media wrote about the HIV/AIDS epidemic during the 1980s. By using critical discourse analysis and corpus linguistics, I aim to understand how people involved with the epidemic - and specifically, gay and bisexual men - were discursively constructed, with specific focus on representational strategies. You can read more about my dissertation in the research project page.
