I am a PhD student in Johan Rasmuson lab and my project is about colitis caused by Clostridioides difficile, and its treatment with fecal microbiota transplantation, FMT.

Part of my research aims to find out how FMT works. How is the colonic mucosa and its mucus layer thickness and permeability affected by FMT in the short and long term? How quickly does the donated intestinal flora establish itself and how long does it remain? How is the immune system affected locally in the colon, systemically and in the respiratory tract?

The second part of the research is about how FMT is used in practice. How have different methods of manufacturing the transplant material, storing it and giving it to patients affected the use and treatment effect?

I have studied the medical programme at Umeå University.
